Pungitius sinensis
           (6cm)
         * Endangered Species

Habitat : Pungitius sinensis sinensis typically occurs in clear and richly vegetated pool with low current or still waters in streams, lagoons, and drains, ranging from a few to 100m wide. Feeds mainly on small invertebrates.

Range:  Native to the Northeast Asia:  Russian Far East, North Korea, South Korea, Japan and Changjiang(Yangtze) River of the Central China.

Threats : Recently, revetment construction for flood control and dredging are main threats to populations of all habitats. For example, in 2004, this species is disappeared from Hosan River in Samcheok County(KA) shortly after revetment construction and dredging, although more than one hundred individuals could be observed in one seine haul in 2003 (Dr. Chae, Byeong-soo at the National Institute of Environmental Research, 2004). Sewage, quarries, polluted sediment, and reclaiming are also threatening.

Conservation action : No report on conservation management plan. Several researchers and hobbists are breeding and raising this species on small scale.
