Microphysogobio koreensis
(13cm)
* Endangered Specis
Habitat : Microphysogobio koreensis usually occurs in streams ranging from 30 to 200 m wide amongst boulder, cobble, and gravel riffles with fast current and runs less than 80cm deep, with cool, clear water. The shore of its habitat is typically forested. Feeds mainly on algae growing on rock and gravel surfaces.
Range: Endemic to South Korea(Seomjin and Nakdong River).
Threats : Revetment construction, dredging, impoundments, and polluted sediment appear to be the main threats.
Mines or quarries had been main threats to populations of Yeong River at Munkyeong County(NG) and upper Nakdong River in Bonghwa County(NG) for a couple of decades and nowadays sewage from downtown Munkyeong and Taebaek county, and dredging become the main threats.
Conservation action : Restoration plans were proposed and experiments on breeding was succeeded by National Fisheries Research and Development Institute. However, massive breeding and raising are still not successful.
