Habitat: Richly vegetated spring runs, small creeks, drains, pools, ponds, lagoons, silty lakes, headwaters, sometimes rice paddies, with low to moderate current or still water. Seems to prefer warm, shallow, and open water. Feeds mainly on invertebrates.

Range: Native to Northeast Asia:  Russian Far East, North Korea, South Korea, northeastern China.
