Habitat: Various bottom conditions of river, drain, reservoirs and lakes. Feeds on invertebrates and plants.

Range: Native to Northeast Asia:  North Korea, South Korea, Japan, eastern China, Taiwan, and northern Vietnam. Widely introduced to the East Sea slope in South Korea.

Remarks: One of the most common freshwater fish in South Korea. Also a popular aquarium fish. Dominated in disturbed rivers or polluted reservoirs around cities as well as carp, goldfish, and oriental weatherloach.
