Habitat: Usually marshes, rice paddies, drains, reservoirs and natural ponds with low current to still water and richly developed vegetation. Also inhabits in backwaters of large rivers. Seemingly prefers shallow, warm, quiet and turbid water. Feeds mainly on invertebrates and insect fallen into the water.
Range: Native to Northeast Asia: western North Korea, South Korea, Japan, eastern China and Taiwan.
Remarks: A popular aquarium fish in South Korea.
