Habitat: Coarse to fine sand bottomed riffles with low to moderate current. Seems to prefer warm and quiet water. Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates.

Range: Native to northeast Asia: Russian Far East, North Korea, South Korea, western Japan, northeastern China.

Remarks: A popular food fish (by fry) in Chungcheongdo and Jeollado Provinces and a popular aquarium fish in South Korea.  Quickly burrows into sand bottom when avoiding predators.
