Habitat: Inhabits in large gravel riffles of large rivers with fast to moderate current. Builds mounds to spawn. According to Dr. Wanok Lee, this species feeds mainly on freshwater snails and chironomids.
Range: Endemic to South Korea (Han River drainage and Keum River drainage) and North Korea (Yeseong River drainage).
Remarks: This species has firstly been designated as the National Monument No. 238 only for the Keum River population and then the National Monument No. 259 for the species. This species had been extirpated from the Keum River since early 1980s. Recently, Dr. Wanok Lee team of the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute and Dr. Inchul Bang team of the Soonchunhyang University at Asan stocked young of the year fish in historical habitats of the Keum River. The stocking project is known to be successful since grown up individuals are currently being collected.
