Habitat: Usually mud and sand bottomed and richly vegetated rivers, lakes, and drains with low to moderate current. Seems to prefer warm and shallow water. Feeds mainly on invertebrates.

Range: Korean endemic subspecies. Two other subspecies in eastern China and Japan.
