Habitat:
Mud and sand bottomed and richly vegetated rivers, lakes, brackish waters, ponds, and drains with low to moderate current. Feeds on invertebrates and plants. Seems to prefer shallow, warm, and turbid water.

Range: Native to Northeast Asia: Russian Far East, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan.  Also, introduced to western Europe.

Remarks: A popular aquarium fish. Locally used as a bait fish.
