Habitat: Mud and sand bottomed and richly vegetated rivers, lakes, and drains with low to moderate current. Feeds on planktons and invertebrates.

Range: Yellow Sea slope: eastern China and western Korean Peninsula.

Remarks: As well as the other bitterlings, R.notatus spawns in freshwater mussel. A popular aquarium fish in South Korea.
