Habitat: Usually inhabits in estuary that supports extensive tidal mudflat. Young fish often swim up to middle reach of stream.  Also, adult fish are sometimes found in middle reach of large rivers. Seemingly prefers to stay over rocky or gravel bottom on the tidal mudflat where freshwater runoff flows through. Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates and fish.

Range:  Native to the Northeast Asia:  western North Korea, western South Korea, southwestern Japan, northeastern China.

Remarks:  Listed on the endangered animals of China. Relatively common in South Korea and Japan. Once a popular food fish during the Joseon Dynasty (A.D. 1392 ~ 1910). Now used as a food fish mainly in the Yellow Sea coast of the Gyeonggi Province.
