Habitat: Mud and sand bottomed and richly vegetated rivers, lakes, and drains with low to moderate current. Feeds on planktons and invertebrates.

Range: It has been known that this species is endemic to Korean Peninsula. Akai and Arai (1998), however, state R. sinensis, previously known as an endemic species to eastern China is a senior synonym of R. lighti and R. uyekii.

Remarks: As well as the other bitterlings, R.uyesii spawns in freshwater mussel. A popular aquarium fish in South Korea.
