Monopterus albus

 

Habitat: Mud and sand bottomed and richly vegetated spring runs, creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, lagoons, drains, and rice paddies with low current or still water. Seems to prefer warm, quiet, shallow, and silty waters. Feeds on invertebrates, snails, frogs, and fish.

Range: *Northeast Asia: North Korea, South Korea, Japan, eastern China, Taiwan. *Southeast Asia: Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia. *Oceania: Queensland of Australia.  Introduced to southern North America(U.S).

Remarks: A main commercial fish in China.
