Habitat: Muddy and sandy bottomed and richly vegetated spring runs, creeks, lakes, ponds, lagoons, drains, and rice paddies with low current or still water. Seems to prefer warm, quiet, shallow, and silty waters. Feeds on planktons and invertebrates.
Range: Native to Northeast Asia: western North Korea, western South Korea, eastern China.
Remarks: A popular aquarium fish in South Korea. Marine populations are often observed along the Yellow Sea coast in South Korea.
