Habitat: Mud and sand (also oftern gravel) bottomed and richly vegetated spring runs, creeks, lakes, ponds, lagoons, drains, and rice paddies with low current or still water. Seems to prefer warm, quiet, shallow, and silty waters. Feeds on planktons and invertebrates.

Range: Native to Northeast Asia: eastern North Korea, eastern South Korea, western Japan.

Remarks: A popular aquarium fish in South Korea and Japan.
