Habitat: Mud and fine sand bottomed rivers and drains, lagoons, and lakes directly connected to sea with low to moderate current or still water. Seems to prefer warm, shallow, and silty water. Feeds on plankton, plants, and algea. Amphidrimous.

Range: Worldwide in temperate and tropical seas.

Remarks: A popular food and game fish in South Korea. Occasionally dominated in polluted shallow bays around large industrial areas.
