 Habitat:
Mud, sand bottomed and richly vegetated rivers, lakes, and drains with low to moderate current. Feeds on planktons and invertebrates.

 Range: Native to Northeast Asia: southwestern Korean Peninsula, eastern China, western Japan, and Taiwan.

 Remarks: As well as the other bitterlings, R.ocellatus spawns in freshwater mussel. A popular aquarium fish in South Korea and Japan.
