Habitat: Coarse sand, gravel, and rocky bottomed riffles or shallow pools directly connected to river or larger headwater with moderate to torrential current. Feeds on benthic invertebrates and young fish.
Range: Endemic to the northern half of South Korea (Han River, Muhan River, and Yeok River). Introduced to the East Sea slope in South Korea.
Remarks: Of the populations excluding Han River are currently in great need of protection. Recently, Pyeongchang County(KA) held on a local fishing festival named after this species (Tungari Chukje (KOR), Liobagrus andersoni Festival (ENG)), which causes a serious overfishing of this species as well as many other rare fish, like Hemibarbus mylodon (Natural Monument of Korea No.259).
