Habitat: Coarse sand, gravel, and rocky bottomed riffles or shallow pools directly connected to river or torrent headwater with moderate to torrential current. Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates and young fish.

Range: Endemic to the southern half of South Korea.

Remarks: A popular food fish in mountainous regions in Gyeongsang Provinces and Jeollabuk Province. Shows several different morphological variations across its range.
